STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The last road regular-season road trip of the season awaits the Stony Brook baseball team as they head to Staten Island for a three-game set with Wagner at Richmond County Bank Ballpark, home of the short-season Class A Staten Island Yankees.
Stony Brook took one of three in Maine last weekend but remains ahead of Binghamton in the America East standings with a 14-7 league record.
THE OPPONENT
Wagner enters the weekend at 15-28 in its final home series of 2019. They are losers of seven in a row including a home series against Central Connecticut last weekend as well as a road matchup with St. John's.
The Seahawks rattled off five in a row in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-1 lead against the Red Storm, but the hosts returned the favor, winning the contest on a seventh-inning bunt single.
Will Johnson, who has amassed a team-best .346 batting average while starting all 43 games this season, leads Jim Carone's club at the plate. Anthony Pecora leads in the power department, hitting a team-high five home runs and driving in 27 runs, also a team-best.
On the mound, McCae Allen has a 4.53 ERA in 10 starts. He has struck out 52 batters in 51.2 innings of work. In the bullpen, Nick LePre enters with a 4.09 ERA in 14 appearances on the season.
THE SERIES
The Seawolves have won seven of the overall 11 meetings between the schools, but Wagner has taken the last four including all three at Joe Nathan Field a season ago. Stony Brook is 5-1 on Staten Island.
DILLY DILLY
Senior
Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) has caught fire at the plate as of late, batting .444 (8-for-18) in his last five games with most of these coming for extra bases. Six of his eight hits have gone for doubles as he's climbed into the Top 100 nationally in the category. He has also driven in five runs and scored four of his own since the stretch started at LIU Brooklyn.
TROPHY HUNTING
With one conference weekend left after this trip to Staten Island, the Seawolves sit in first place in the America East at 14-7. If Binghamton loses one of its last six games, Stony Brook controls its destiny in the final weekend of the regular season against UMass Lowell. Should Stony Brook take the regular season crown, it would be the fifth in program history.
GONE STREAKING
Senior
Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) reached base safely in 32 consecutive games this season, a stretch that started on February 24 against Southeastern Louisiana and lasted until the May 4 trip up to Maine. During this span, he hit a .361 clip with a team-high 17 doubles. He also added 3 home runs and 25 RBI.
DOUBLE THE EXCITEMENT
Senior
Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) leads a double-happy offense for the Seawolves, as he leads the league and is 13th nationally with 19 two-base hits on the season.
Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) (16) and
Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) (15) sit fourth and fifth, respectively on the league leaderboard. As a squad,
Matt Senk's club is 13th in doubles per game with 2.27 and 23rd nationally with 100 total doubles. Both numbers lead the America East.
ON DECK
Senior weekend arrives at Joe Nathan Field as the Seawolves play host to UMass Lowell in the last regular-season series of 2019. The teams will play a pair on Friday and end the campaign on Saturday on Long Island. Both days of action begin at Noon.
