STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Thanks to a sophomore
John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) sacrifice fly to win game two, the Stony Brook baseball team won its fifth America East Regular Season title on Saturday after a split with UMass Lowell at Joe Nathan Field.
Tuccillo capped a late rally in the nightcap as the Seawolves scored two in the sixth to tie the game at seven and then won it in with senior
Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.) coming in to score on the fly ball to center.

GAME 1 SUMMARY
- After UMass Lowell started the scoring in the top half of the first, Stony Brook struck for three in the bottom half.
- Junior Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) hit one into the Stony Brook bullpen in right field to give the Seawolves the lead and then Tuccillo tacked one on by drawing a bases-loaded walk that scored junior Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.).
- UMass Lowell scored the game's next two runs on a RBI groundout in the second and double to right in the seventh.
- Wilson gave the Seawolves the lead back, doubling to right center to bring Hamilton in from first.
- A two-run single to center in the eighth gave UMass Lowell the lead in the eighth but Stony Brook would tie it in the ninth.
- Senior Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) singled to left, scoring Wilson to send the game to extras.
- The River Hawks got what they would need in the tenth on a single to right.
GAME 2 SUMMARY
- UMass Lowell again started the scoring in the second on a RBI single to right.
- The Seawolves struck for five in the third, as Alamo cleared the bases with a triple down the left field line.
- Tuccillo then singled to short and freshman Johnny Decker (Coeymans Hollow, N.Y.) drew a bases-loaded walk to bring the lead to 5-1 after three.
- The visitors would not go down quietly, scoring six in the fourth to take a 7-5 lead.
- Stony Brook erased a two-run deficit in the sixth to tie the game at seven. Junior Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) hit a sacrifice fly to left and Wilson doubled to tie the game.
- Tuccillo then walked it off with the bases loaded, sending a ball deep into center field, ensuring a play could not be made as Alamo slid in to win it.
STATS AND NOTES
- Stony Brook also won regular season titles in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015.
- The last two times the Seawolves have made the NCAA Tournament, they have won a regular season title.
- Alamo finished the day 5-for-8 with a pair of runs scored and three driven in.
- Tuccillo also tied atop the team leaderboard with three RBI on the day.
- Junior Brandon Bonanno (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) locked down the game two victory, throwing 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
- Decker had a pair of hits in game two, his sixth multi-hit outing of the season. Five of them have come in the last three weeks.
UP NEXT
The teams will meet in the rubber game of the three-game set Saturday at Noon. The program will honor its eight-member senior class starting at 11:45 a.m. at Joe Nathan Field.
