Hamilton Blast Caps Wild Comeback as Seawolves Advance in Winner's Bracket

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Junior Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) took one swing and a ferocious comeback was complete as the Stony Brook baseball team came back from 6-2 down in the eighth to win on Hamilton's two-run shot over the right-center field wall. The Seawolves' 7-6 win brings them a win away from the Championship Round.

GAME SUMMARY
  • Sophomore John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) started the scoring in the second with a single to left that scored senior Brandon Alamo (Artesia, Calif.).
  • Alamo doubled the lead in the third on a double in the left center field gap, scoring junior Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.).
  • UMass Lowell scored six unanswered with a three-run home run in the fourth to give them the lead.
  • The River Hawks then doubled the lead with a single and two-run homer in the eighth.
  • Junior Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) clobbered the first pitch after of the 75-minute delay over the right-center field wall to cut into the lead.
  • Senior Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) made the deficit one with a two-run blast into the Seawolves bullpen in left.
  • After Grande reached, Hamilton took a 1-1 pitch and won the game with a home run to right.
STATS AND NOTES
  • Hamilton now has nine RBI in his last four America East Championship contests.
  • He's up to eight homers and 40 RBI on the season. Wilson has nine long balls and 43 RBI to lead the team.
  • Junior Brandon Bonanno (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) earned his third win of the season, throwing two innings in relief with one on each side of the delay.
  • The Seawolves have won each of their last six postseason openers, dating back to the 2014 season.
  • Both of Alamo's hits were doubles this afternoon, bringing his America East-leading total to 22 on the season.
  • Redshirt-junior Greg Marino (Lake Grove, N.Y.) threw seven strong innings, allowing four earned and striking out five.
  • Senior Sean Buckhout (West Nyack, N.Y.) has reached in 17 consecutive games after a fourth-inning single today.
  • Resk became the seventh player in the Seawolves' Division I history to hit 20 home runs with his eighth-inning blast.

Stony Brook plays for a spot in the Championship Round on Friday morning at 11 a.m. against the winner of No. 2 UAlbany and No. 3 Binghamton.
