STONY BROOK, N.Y. – For the first time since the 2012 Super Regional, the Stony Brook baseball team goes back to Alex Box Stadium and Louisiana State University for the start of the 2019 NCAA Baseball Tournament. The Baton Rouge Regional commences on Friday with No. 2 Arizona State and No. 3 Southern Miss playing at 1 p.m. and the Seawolves and Tigers battling at 7 p.m. in the double-elimination format.

The Seawolves earned the America East's automatic bid to the tournament after winning the conference title held at Binghamton over the weekend. Junior Brandon Bonanno (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) recorded two wins on the mound during the three-day championship, while classmate Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) hit a pair of home runs to increase his total to 10 on the season.

VIEWS FROM THE TOP
The Seawolves swept their way through a sixth America East title over the weekend, winning all three games in Vestal by a combined four runs. Stony Brook is making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2015 and will be going to Baton Rouge for the first time since the team's Super Regional victory in 2012.

BOMBS AWAY
Stony Brook used the long ball in pressure situations to win its sixth conference title. Down 6-2 in the bottom of the eighth, the Seawolves hit three home runs, including a Chris Hamilton walk-off in the ninth, to win its first game. Two days later, Michael Wilson and Brandon Alamo went back to back to tie the championship game before Hamilton won the day with a two-run double.

BUCK IS CLUTCH
Senior Sean Buckhout has been a consistent threat at the plate for the Seawolves, reaching in 19 consecutive contests dating back to April 19. He hit the game-winning home run on Friday against Binghamton, sending a three-run shot off the foul pole for his first career home run. He also drove in a two-run double against Wagner earlier in the month, helping Stony Brook win its last road series.

FIELDING EFFICIENCY
The Seawolves are one of the most prolific defensive teams in the country, currently sitting eighth nationally and first in the America East with a .981 fielding percentage. They committed 35 errors in 52 games this season, including going errorless in each of the last five games.
