COACH RONAN'S THOUGHTS
We are heading into this meet feeling that we have a strong group of ladies in the track events. Despite the weather this spring I feel the group has gotten something from each meet and they have been rounding into very good fitness. We are going to look to our upper classmen to lead the way, athletes like
Courtney Warden,
Holly Manning,
Melissa Riback,
Alexandria Ortega will be expected to set the tone on and off the track this weekend. We have an opportunity to challenge for individual titles and then we need to squeeze out as many top 8 scoring places as possible to produce a positive team score. The shorter events 800m downwards and the 2 relays events are probably where most of our point should come from, but we have plenty of opportunities in the longer events to add points, the distance group just needs to be ready to compete for each point," said head coach
Andy Ronan.
LAST TIME OUT
A select few competed at the Penn Relays on Thursday, April 25 through Saturday April 27. At the meet, The 4 x100m relay team of
Emmanuela Lauredent,
Dana Cerbone,
Nikki Fogarty and
Amanda Stead produced two super runs. In the heats on Thursday they set a school record of 46.64 while qualifying for the Eastern Championship. Then on Friday in the final they claimed the victory and once again lowered the record down to 45.89. For their efforts they got to take one of the famous Penn Relay Wheels. The 4 x 400m team of
Melissa Riback,
Amanda Stead,
Janelle Pottinger and
Mary Chimezie, lowered the record for this event down to 3:44.69, and secured a place for themselves in Saturday's final where they finished 4th in 3:45.31 just short of lowering the record again.
Courtney Warden also had a strong performance on Friday. Warden secured the last spot in Saturday's 100m Hurdle final, but then produced her best run of the season so far in the final to take fifth place in a season's best time of 13.63. This put her within the top 48 times in the East Region opening the door to a return to the 1st round of the NCAA's in Jacksonville next month.
