Game Recap: Baseball |

Wilson, Hamilton Provide Power in Seawolves Split with Maine

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook baseball team used a pair of home runs in the nightcap of its doubleheader with Maine to split the twinbill and set up a winner-take-all game three tomorrow at Mahaney Diamond.

Junior Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.) started the scoring in game two with a home run and then classmate Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) hit a three-run bomb in the third to give the Seawolves the firepower they would need for victory.

SENK'S REACTION
"I'm extremely proud of the team's ability to be resilient and bounce back to win the second game after the tough one run loss in game one"

GAME 1 SUMMARY
  • Sophomore John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) started the scoring in the third, coming home on a wild pitch to give the Seawolves an early lead.
  • Maine scored in the third and fourth to take a 2-1 lead, tying it with a RBI double and going ahead on a run-scoring single.
  • The Seawolves plated two in the sixth, with Wilson's first home run of the day landing over the center field wall.
  • Freshman Johnny Decker (Coeymans Hollow, N.Y.) gave Stony Brook the lead with a double to left that scored senior Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.).
  • Maine answered with a sacrifice fly in the sixth and won it with a home run in the bottom half of the eighth.
GAME 2 SUMMARY
  • Wilson's first home run of game two landed in the left-center field seats to give Stony Brook a 1-0 lead.
  • After Maine tied it in the bottom half of the inning, Hamilton hit a no-doubter to right to give the Seawolves all they would need.
  • Junior Nick Grande (Smithtown, N.Y.) added insurance in the fifth, stealing second, advancing to third on an error by the catcher and scoring on an error by the center fielder.
  • Maine added two in the sixth with a run-scoring error and a RBI double.
STATS AND NOTES
  • After two today, Wilson increases his season haul to eight home runs on the season and now has 40 RBI. Both are team highs.
