ORONO, MAINE – The 5-6-7 portion of the Stony Brook baseball team's lineup went 7-for-12 on Sunday afternoon, but the Seawolves were on the losing end of a weekend rubber game for the first time this season, falling to Maine 9-8.
GAME SUMMARY
- The Seawolves started hot, scoring the game's first six runs to earn an early cushion.
- Junior Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) used the long ball to start the scoring with a homer in the first.
- Senior Dylan Resk (Ardsley, N.Y.) doubled the lead in the frame with a RBI double down the line.
- Stony Brook added two more in the second as Hamilton's RBI groundout was followed up by a sophomore John Tuccillo (Clinton Corners, N.Y.) homer to left center.
- Two more came in the third as the visitors' lead grew to 6-0. Resk scored on a double steal and freshman Johnny Decker (Coeymans Hollow, N.Y.) touched home on a double play ball.
- After Maine added one in the bottom half of the third and three in the fourth, senior Sean Buckhout (West Nyack, N.Y.) scored Tuccillo with a double to the gap in left center.
- The Black Bears tied the game with three in the bottom of the fifth and then took the lead on a sixth-inning home run to right.
- Buckhout's sacrifice fly to center scored Resk to tie the game momentarily but a RBI fielder's choice to short gave Maine the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth.
STATS AND NOTES
- After two hits today, Decker finished the weekend a team-best .417 (5-for-12) at the plate.
- Resk, Decker and Tuccillo combined for a 7-for-12 day, scoring five of Stony Brook's eight runs.
- Buckhout and Hamilton both finished the day with a pair of RBI.
UP NEXT
The Seawolves' last road series of the season is on Staten Island this coming weekend with a perennial NEC power in Wagner set to host Stony Brook for three at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. The teams will play a pair of games at Noon on Saturday before Sunday's series finale at 1 p.m.
