Stony Brook's Season Comes to a Close at Baton Rouge Regional

Box Score BATON ROUGE, La. – The Stony Brook baseball team saw its season come to a close in the 2019 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional on Saturday afternoon, falling to second-seeded Arizona State 13-5 at Alex Box Stadium.

Stony Brook finishes its season at 31-23 on the year after winning the program's sixth America East Championship the weekend prior.

SENK'S REACTION
"I'm very proud of the response our team had from a rough game last night. Today, I thought we competed very hard against an outstanding Arizona State team. Them and the other teams in this regional are as tough as you're going to find."

GAME SUMMARY
  • The Seawolves scored first yet again on Saturday afternoon, as senior Sean Buckhout (West Nyack, N.Y.) plated two on a single past third.
  • After Arizona State came back to tie the game, the Seawolves re-took the lead in the bottom half on a RBI infield single by freshman Brad Hipsley (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.).
  • The second seed in the regional then scored two in the fourth, three in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a five-run advantage.
  • Buckhout added another run for the Seawolves in the seventh, driving a single to center that brought home junior Michael Wilson (Colonia, N.J.).
  • Freshman Johnny Decker (Coeymans Hollow, N.Y.) drove in a second run in the frame, grounding a single through the middle to cut the deficit to three.
  • Arizona State added three more in the top half of the eighth and two in the ninth to top it off.

STATS AND NOTES
  • Buckhout's on-base streak is now 21 games after hitting a single in the first.
  • The two-run single ensured his sixth multi-RBI game of the season.
  • Junior Chris Hamilton (Schenectady, N.Y.) had a great regional, recording five hits in nine at-bats.
  • Decker recorded his eighth multi-hit game of the season with a pair of base knocks.
  • The Seawolves finish with 30 wins for the fourth time in the last six seasons, going 13-5 at home.
