Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Dass, Jara Both Score in Draw with Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Stony Brook men's soccer team picked up a 2-2 draw in a back-and-forth battle with Fairfield on Saturday night from Lessing Field.

Quoting head coach Ryan Anatol
"We dominated the first half and scored a good goal but should have been up by more with the chances we created. Unfortunately, we allowed them to stay in the game and they made the game difficult with every restart. We needed to defend better in some of these situations. To twice have the lead and not get the win is not good enough but we will look at it and continue to improve with each performance."

Highlights
  • The Seawolves took the first five shots of the night, with the latter three all saved by Fairfield keeper Gordon Botterill.
  • Stony Brook opened the scoring in the 37th minute when senior Mark Irvine (Southampton, England) found senior Jarred Dass (Marabella, Trinidad) on a cross. Dass found the back of the net on a header to give the Seawolves a 1-0 advantage.
  • Fairfield answered early in the second half when Daniel Raimondo scored off a rebound to even the match at one in the 59th minute.
  • Freshman Danny Jara (Queens, N.Y.) gave the Seawolves the lead back with a goal in the 69th minute. Graduate student Arni Jakobsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) tallied the assist, finding Jara on a corner kick.
  • The home team equalized when Fernando Robayo scored a header off a free kick in the 75th minute.
  • Stony Brook had one last chance with a free kick in the 90th minute but couldn't convert.
Stats and Notes
  • Jara's go-ahead goal was the first of his career.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Yamil Montenegro (Merida, Mexico) made his collegiate debut in the draw, tallying eight saves.
  • Freshman Birkir Gudmundsson (Reykjavik, Iceland) also made his collegiate debut. He took a shot in 80 minutes of action.
