STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook men's lacrosse team continues to have a top-50 player on its staff.

For a second straight year, assistant coach Mike Chanenchuk has been voted by his fellow players as one of the Premier Lacrosse League's elite.

Chanenchuk checks in at No. 19 in this year's rankings, which were released Tuesday by the PLL.

Chanenchuk and the Whipsnakes repeated as PLL champions this past summer by going unbeaten in the league's Championship Series.

The Whipsnakes rallied to defeat the Chaos, 12-6, on Aug. 9 in the NBC-televised final.

Chanenchuk scored the game's opening goal. The Whipsnakes overcame a four-point third-quarter deficit by scoring the game's final 10 goals.

Chanenchuk, a midfielder and East Setauket native who completed his first season on the Stony Brook staff last spring, produced 14 points in seven games — six one-point goals, two two-point goals and four assists.

Chanenchuk ranked 11th in the inaugural PLL player poll a year ago.

The Seawolves currently are slated to open their 2021 America East schedule under head coach Anthony Gilardi as well as Chanenchuk on March 20 at UMass Lowell.
