CLEMSON, S.C. — For the third straight game, the Seawolves hung with Power Five opposition.
But, for the third straight game, they came up just short, falling to Clemson 3-1 thanks to a bases-loaded walk and run-scoring infield single in the eighth that put the hosts ahead for good.
"Frankly, it's hard to believe we are not coming home with at least one win after the way we pitched and played defense in this series," head coach
Matt Senk said. "I'm very proud of our starting pitching and overall team competitiveness but we need to get better at producing runs through situational hitting execution and creating timely hits."
Another strong starting pitching performance was turned in by the Seawolves, with sophomore
Nick DeGennaro going 5 2/3 innings, striking out six and allowing just one unearned run and a pair of hits.
The Seawolves got their lone run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly to right from freshman
Shane Paradine, scoring fellow catcher
John Tuccillo from third.
That run eliminated Clemson's opening tally, a run via a balk with a runner on third.
