Stony Brook swept the regular-season series from the Great Danes, winning 70-62 at home on Jan. 18, then 52-49 in Albany last Saturday.
The Seawolves were missing leading scorer
Elijah Olaniyi for the latter of those game due to an ankle injury.
Olaniyi returned and saw 18 minutes off the bench in the regular-season finale against UMBC on Tuesday. He now should be ready to reenter the starting lineup.
Including the game in which Olaniyi was limited to 12 minutes before departing with the injury at New Hampshire, Stony Brook had a 3-4 record down the stretch. The Seawolves (19-12, 10-6 AE) nonetheless had such a strong start to conference play, they finished second to Vermont in the America East.
The Seawolves will notch their second straight 20-win season with a victory against UAlbany (14-17, 7-9).
"It's no secret we've missed Elijah," coach
Geno Ford said. "He will be a big part of this offense now that he's back. He'll continue to work through what he has, but even 75 to 80 percent of him is still a big help to this team."
Ford recognizes that homecourt advantage — while valuable — has its limitations.
"Our league's road winning percentage was the highest of any in the country," Ford said. "It will be nice to play in front of our fans, who have been great all year, but pretty much every team has been able to go on the road this season and win in our league. It will be a tough 40 minutes."
