Box Score TOWSON, Md. — Stony Brook softball has gotten strong pitching performances in most of its games this season.
On Saturday, the Seawolves added their bats to the mix.
Nicole McCarvill had four hits and
Melissa Rahrich went the distance in the circle as the Seawolves tallied 13 hits to knock off Iona for the second consecutive day, this time 7-1, at the DeMarini Tiger Clash
"This was a well-played and complete-game win for us," coach Megan Bryant said. "Our execution was good, Mel pitched a solid game and our defense was terrific. We played to a high standard in all three facets of our game."
McCarvill's first hit was a one-out single in the first inning. She eventually scored later in the inning on an error to open the scoring.
Rahrich retired nine of the first 10 batters she faced en route to her second win of the year. The senior struck out five.
"It was really important for us to come out strong today, especially since we had beaten Iona yesterday," Rahrich said. "Pitching-wise, I wanted to really focus on my spins and keep the hitters off balance."
The game stayed 1-0 until the Seawolves added insurance in the top of the fifth. After singles by
Jourdin Hering and McCarvill,
Riley Craig's two-run double extended the lead to three.
Iona (1-5) got on the board with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the inning before the Seawolves secured the win with four runs in the top of the seventh.
Craig's bases-loaded walk and
Lindsey Osmer's infield single made it 5-1.
Corinne Badger's two-run double opened a six-run lead.
The Seawolves (9-3) are back in action Sunday for a pair of games, starting with a matchup against La Salle at 10 a.m. at the Tiger Softball Complex.
