Box Score 2 TOWSON, Md. — Nicole McCarvill continued swinging a hot bat, helping the Seawolves to a doubleheader split on Sunday.
The Seawolves took down La Salle, 8-0, in six innings in the morning before falling to Towson, 3-2, to complete the Demarini Tiger Clash.
"We played great softball this weekend and certainly had our opportunities to put more runs on the board," coach Megan Bryant said. "Most importantly, we are improving and growing as a team."
McCarvill followed her four-hit Friday with a game-ending grand slam in the sixth inning to finish off the Game 1 victory on Sunday. That was her second hit and second run of the contest. She also scored on
Melissa Rahrich's two-run homer in the third, which had given the Seawolves a 3-0 lead.
"I've been feeling really comfortable with my approach when I get to the plate," McCarvill said. "I know what I want and I know what I want to do. Our team has so much potential offensively and when we maximize all aspects of our offensive game we can manufacture a lot of runs."
Shelbi Denman tossed a six-inning shutout for the Seawolves, scattering four hits and striking out five batters. She retired 13 of her first 14 batters faced and allowed only one runner to reach third base on the day.
The Tigers stole the second game, erasing a 2-0 deficit entering the fifth with a walk-off sacrifice fly in the eighth inning.
Rahrich provided the start of the scoring in Game 2 against host Towson, hitting another two-run shot in the third to make it 2-0. The Tigers responded with a pair of RBI singles in the fifth to knot the proceedings.
Dawn Bodrug struck out six over five innings.
The Seawolves went 3-1 on the weekend, earning two wins over Iona along with Sunday morning's victory over La Salle.
Bryant feels confident in her team moving forward.
"We are getting contributions from many different people and that's key," she said.
