STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Two-time JUCO All-American Juan Felix Rodriguez has signed with Stony Brook men's basketball after submitting his national letter of intent to the program on Wednesday.
 
After earning honorable mention All-American honors as a freshman, he garnered second-team honors for his output during the 2019-20 campaign. He led Monroe College to a second consecutive NJCAA Division I Region XV title and a berth in the 2020 NJCAA ETeamSponsor Division I Men's Basketball Championship.
 
"Juan is a really talented guard," Stony Brook head coach Geno Ford said. "He has shown he can score it and make plays for others at a high level. He comes from a great program at Monroe, where he has been well coached, and he is used to winning a lot of games every year. He should make a significant impact for us. We are very excited to have him as part of our family."
 
In addition to earning a second-team All-American selection, he was named the Region XV Player of the Year. He averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this past season and led his squad to the region title.
 
The output included a 16-point, 10-assist, 10-rebound performance against ASA Brooklyn for his lone triple-double of the season. He flirted with three more, falling one rebound shy twice and a pair of boards short on another occasion.
 
"It's great," Rodriguez said. "I talked with Coach Ford a couple of days ago, and we are hoping to produce big things for this year coming up. I bring energy and whatever it takes to win to my team."
 
The Lawrence, Mass., native also brings a defensive prowess to the table. He recorded six steals on two difference occasions and four steals in three other contests.
 
"He's a guy who can knock down a shot for you and he can penetrate and set people up," Monroe head coach Jeff Brustad said. "Plus, he has the connection with Mo [Gueye], and I think those two can create some magic for Stony Brook fans."

Gueye arrived at Stony Brook from Monroe College this past season.
 
The 6-foot Rodriguez also joins a plethora of Stony Brook talent on the outside, highlighted by first-team all-conference selection Elijah Olaniyi and three-point threat Makale Foreman. That duo helped the Seawolves to their second consecutive 20-win season and seventh in the last nine campaigns.
