STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Despite the postponement of Stony Brook's 2020 football season, preseason accolades were still handed out. Five Seawolves earned a spot on the Phil Steele's preseason All-CAA Football team.
Kyle Nunez,
Augie Contressa,
Sam Kamara,
Reidgee Dimanche and
TJ Morrison all received honors from the prestigious publication.
Nunez, a redshirt junior offensive lineman, and Contressa, a redshirt senior defensive back, landed on the first team. Kamara, a redshirt senior defensive lineman, Dimanche, a redshirt junior linebacker, and Morrison, a redshirt senior defensive back, appeared on the second team.
Nunez is one of the most decorated players on the current roster. He was named to the HERO Sports Preseason All-America team in May. Nunez earned second-team All-CAA Football honors following the 2019 campaign after he started all 12 games for the Seawolves. He helped anchor the offensive line as the right guard.
The line surrendered only 17 sacks in more than 330 passing attempts and paved the way for Stony Brook backs to average 201.2 rushing yards per game.
Nunez also was named second-team All-CAA Football after his freshman season and was selected to the HERO Sports Freshman All-American team.
Contressa has started 24 consecutive games, with 37 career games played. His 88 total tackles with 10.5 tackles for a loss in 2019 led the Seawolves en route to earning second-team All-CAA Football honors. For his career, Contressa has collected 189 total tackles, with 22.0 tackles for loss and 7.0 sacks.
Kamara returns to Stony Brook after the NCAA granted a waiver for the defensive lineman to return for a fifth and final season.
He was named to the preseason All-CAA football team in 2019. He recorded 16 total tackles, three sacks and 4.5 tackles for a loss in five games prior to an injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season.
Kamara earned second-team All-CAA honors in 2018 after recording a career-best 42 total tackles and league-best nine sacks.
Dimanche started all 12 games in 2019. He recorded 87 total tackles, the second most on the squad. He also collected a team-high 10.5 tackles for a loss.
Morrison has started 23 games in his career at cornerback and has played in 36 contests. He has recorded 97 total tackles during his career, with a pair of interceptions and 17 pass breakups. In 2019, Morrison made 40 tackles, with 31 solo stops, a sack, an interception and seven pass breakups.
The Phil Steele honors are among the top in the FCS each year.
Earlier this month, the CAA Football announced the postponement of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns. The CAA expressed a strong commitment to exploring conducting a football season during the spring, and will continue to analyze this scenario as more information becomes available and conditions evolve.
