Jets Coach Adam Gase: SBU Alum Connor Davis Making Positive Impression in NFL Camp

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. — Stony Brook football alum Connor Davis drew praise from the head coach of the New York Jets on Thursday.

The 6-foot-8, 260-pound Davis, a tight end who recently signed with Gang Green, appeared in 41 games for Stony Brook from 2013 through 2016.

"I've been impressed," Jets coach Adam Gase told reporters. "For the short period of time [in camp], and [with] things moving quick and so much to learn, when all of a sudden you kind of pop, you're doing the right things, you're making plays … that's a huge plus in my book."

When Davis signed with the Jets last Saturday, he joined Chris Cooper (Atlanta), Gavin Heslop (Seattle) and Timon Parris (Washington) as Seawolves products in NFL camps.

"I played with all those guys," Davis told Newsday. "They're all top players. And the fact that we are representing Stony Brook University, representing the football program, and to have this opportunity means a ton. I've been working so hard to get to this point."

Davis most recently played with the St. Louis BattleHawks in the XFL. He also has experience with the Birmingham Iron in the Alliance of American Football.

Said Stony Brook coach Chuck Priore to Newsday: "He was very versatile, and always one of the hardest workers in our program. He's a great learner. … He was always determined to reach the next level, and it's nice to see him having an opportunity."
