Women's Soccer League Title Rematch Ends Scoreless

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Despite 31 shots with 10 on frame, a rematch of the Spring 2021 America East Women's Soccer Championship Game ended as it started, with no goals between Stony Brook and Binghamton.

The host Seawolves were able to secure 56 percent of possession, and 58 percent of the ball in the regular 90 minutes, but could not find a winner at Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium on Thursday night.

Tobias Bischof's squad also had eight of the ten corners on the night.

STATS AND NOTES
  • It was the second time this season the Seawolves played all 110 minutes. Chelsie DePonte and Kerry Pearson have each gone the distance in both contests.
  • Graduate student Alyssa Francese generated six shots on the night, the most by any Seawolves player this season.
  • Stony Brook kept its fourth clean sheet of the season and second against an America East opponent.
  • The eight corners are the second most by the Seawolves this season. They have generated 18 in their last two games.
QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"We were able to dominate the possession but at the end of the day, we had a couple chances and they had a couple chances so a tie was probably the right result for the game. We got the ball in really good situations but unfortunately weren't able to score. We've worked a lot in practice about trying to create more chances for ourselves and it definitely worked today. We just weren't able to finish one off. We'll keep working on it and get ourselves ready for Sunday" - head coach Tobias Bischof.

UP NEXT
Stony Brook heads back to the road again on Sunday afternoon, taking on Hartford at 1 p.m., on the north side of the Long Island sound. The Seawolves are unbeaten in the last five matchups with the Hawks, including the least three in West Hartford, Conn.
