Sleiman's First Career Goal Gives Stony Brook Dramatic Senior Day Victory

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — As the clock trickled down under a minute to play, perennial America East powers Stony Brook and UMass Lowell seemed destined for extra time.

Madison Sleiman had other plans.

The Phoenix, Ariz., native stole the ball from a UMass Lowell defender and slotted it home with 33 seconds to play and the Seawolves took home a 1-0 win on Senior Day at LaValle Stadium. Her first career goal, it placed Stony Brook squarely in the thick of the America East playoff hunt with one game left.

STATS AND NOTES
  • The marquee goal came in Sleiman's 20th appearance and just her fourth shot of her Seawolves career.
  • Emerson Richmond Burke led Stony Brook's fifth clean sheet of the season. She made four saves on the afternoon.
  • Emma Beattie, who played the ball long for Sleiman to run under, recorded her second assist of the season. She now has four points on the year.
  • The Seawolves finish their regular season home campaign 5-1-1.
QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"We performed well today against a well-coached UMass Lowell team. We were able to create a lot of chances and even though it took until the 90th minute to get our goal, it was a great team effort from us. We got the result we were looking for." - head coach Tobias Bischof

"I saw the centerback take a bad touch facing her own goal and I decided to just go for it with a minute left. Luckily, I was able to win the ball off her and went 1v1 with the goalie. This team win meant so much to us, especially because it was senior day. We are going to take this energy with us as we go into our last regular season conference game next week" - junior defender Madison Sleiman.

UP NEXT
The Seawolves head into the final game of the season still alive in the America East playoff picture but needing a win to have a chance at a postseason spot. They will take on UMBC at 6 p.m. in Baltimore.
