SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- Yale has opened its season with seven games in the first 15 days, securing four wins including both at the Lee Ampitheater this season.
- After losing back to back contests, including to America East foe Vermont, the Bulldogs earned a win against Milwauke to finish the Fort Myers Tip-Off on the right foot.
- The hosts have won 10 consecutive home games against non-conference opponents, with their last loss coming against Monmouth on Dec. 22, 2017.
- They currently lead the Ivy and are 54th in the country in FG% Defense, allowing teams to shoot 38.3 percent.
SERIES HISTORY
- Sunday will be the second meeting in three years between the squads, as Yale took an overtime matchup to open the 2019 season. It was the first matchup since the 2001 Red Auerbach Classic, an 82-62 Yale victory.
- Stony Brook is 28-19 all-time against Ivy League opponents but is looking for its first win over the Bulldogs.
ANT-1
It's hard to follow up a game-winning, buzzer-beating three in your first home game with a new team, but Anthony Roberts outdid himself heading into the Thanksgiving break.
The former St. Bonaventure and Kent State guard poured in 30 points on 12-for-21 shooting against Fairfield, the most by a Seawolves player since Elijah Olaniyi did it against UMass Lowell on February 5, 2020.
With one more such performance, Roberts would join Olaniyi as two of six players in Stony Brook's Division I era with multiple 30-point games in a single season.
KEEPING POSSESSION
Sunday's matchup will feature two teams who excel at holding onto the basketball and getting the most out of each possession. The visitors, Stony Brook, are coming off their fewest turnovers in 10 seasons with just five at Fairfield on Wednesday afternoon. This is also a team that has turned it over just 14 times in two games.
As Stony Brook boasts a 14.3 percent turnover rate (17th in the country, per KenPom), Yale comes in just one percent over that at 15.3, good for 33rd nationally. They have committed just under 11 per contest.
GETTING OFFENSIVE
The Stony Brook attack has started to find its groove, shooting just under 44 percent as a team over the last two games, cracking 70 points in back to back contests after not reaching the plateau in its first two outings.
Going back to its matchup at No. 3 Kansas, they are hitting 35.7 percent from 3-point range and hit a season high 39.1 percent against Fairfield on Wednesday. The 70-point mark has seemingly been the magic number for Stony Brook under Geno Ford, going 21-5 when they hit
that number.
(BIG) APPLE TURNOVERS
Head coach Geno Ford has harped to his team about the importance of turnovers and the team has responded, recording season-lows in the department in back to back contests. After only coughing the ball up nine times against Sacred Heart, they recorded just five at Fairfield and are 18-9 when they turn the ball over less than their opponents.
Stony Brook currently boasts a 17.3 percent turnover rate, good for 17th nationally. The only time they had a better one in the KenPom era was 15.2 percent during the 2016-17 season, good for 11th nationally.
REBOUNDING: THE KEI TO SUCCESS
Tykei Greene has been dominant on the glass in the first three games of the season, leading his squad in three of the first four contests. He was a huge part of the Seawolves' win against Sacred Heart, grabbing a career-high 14 as part of his sixth career double-double. He currently sits 13th in the country among guards, hauling in 8.2 per contest.
