STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook women's basketball team already had been locked into the No. 2 seed and had earned a bye into the semifinals of the America East Tournament.
Still, the Seawolves are showing no let-up during the final week of the regular season.
Stony Brook defeated UAlbany, 58-46, on Monday afternoon at Island Federal Arena.
Asiah Dingle and
Earlette Scott hit back-to-back three-pointers midway through the fourth quarter to turn a deficit into a five-point lead and Stony Brook led the rest of the way.
"I thought we were able to buckle down and defend in the fourth quarter," coach Caroline McCombs said. "We found a way to create some extra possessions down the stretch and hit some big shots."
The Seawolves had used a 15-0 run during which they the Great Danes scoreless for more than six minutes to grab a 31-19 second-quarter advantage.
However, UAlbany rallied and retook the lead, 42-41, with a jumper from Kayla Cooper to open the fourth-quarter scoring as Stony Brook went scoreless for more than six minutes.
Anastasia Warren finished with a season-high 21 points in the victory. Dingle had 12 points, three rebounds, four assists and three steals.
"Annie caught fire and we did a good job of finding her," McCombs said.
Stony Brook (12-5, 10-3 AE) and UAlbany complete their regular-season schedules when they meet again on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Island Federal Arena.
The Seawolves then will host an America East semifinal on March 7.
