JAMAICA, N.Y. — Trevor Harrison and
Aki Solvason scored in their collegiate debuts, but the Stony Brook men's soccer team dropped its first game in 476 days on Tuesday afternoon.
No. 21 St. John's defeated the Seawolves, 4-2.
Stony Brook last had played on Nov. 6, 2019.
Harrison, a 5-foot-10, 158-pound freshman from Smithtown, scored in the 26th minute to get the Seawolves on the scoreboard after the Red Storm opened the match with three goals in the opening 13 minutes, including one nine seconds into the match.
Solvason, a 6-0, 163-pound freshman forward from Iceland, tallied a goal in the 62nd minute to make it 3-2.
Back
Stephen Turnbull appeared in his first match since suffering a broken fibula at New Hampshire on Oct. 4, 2019.
Virginia graduate transfer
Jerren Nixon made his Stony Brook debut in the starting lineup.
"It was great to compete again after such a lengthy layoff, especially on the road against a quality top-15 program like St. John's," coach
Ryan Anatol said. "The first 13 minutes were a disaster, and we made some really bad mistakes. But once we got the rust off and settled in, we were effective and scored two good goals to get back into the match, and hit the post. Ultimately we need to clean some things up, but the fight and resilience that this group has will be a huge positive moving forward."
