BOSTON — Twice on Saturday at BU Softball Field, the Stony Brook softball team put the tying run at the plate in the seventh inning.
Unfortunately for the Seawolves, they weren't able to turn those baserunners into runs.
The Seawolves dropped both games of a doubleheader against Boston University, falling 6-3 in the opener and 3-0 in Game 2.
Melissa Rahrich and Ali DuBois both cruised through the first three innings in Game 1 before the Seawolves got on the board in the fourth with a two-out single from
Jordyn Nowakowski.
The lead didn't last long.
Just one out away from escaping a jam in the ensuing half-inning, Rahrich surrendered four runs (three earned).
Stony Brook (7-5) later responded with an RBI triple from reigning America East Rookie of the Week
Kyra McFarland to trim the deficit to a pair of runs.
BU took a 5-2 lead. The two sides then traded runs in the sixth before
Lindsey Osmer stepped to the plate as the tying run with two outs in the seventh. DuBois, who moved to 8-0 with the win, coaxed a game-ending groundout.
The Terriers (10-1) got another solid pitching performance in the nightcap. Allie Boaz tossed a four-hit shutout, walking three and striking out four.
Dawn Bodrug turned in another strong performance in the circle for the Seawolves, allowing three runs (one earned) in a complete game, lowering her second-ranked America East ERA to 1.17.
Stony Brook once again threatened in the final frame, loading the bases with one out. Boaz proceeded to strike out
Julianna Sanzone and
Jourdin Hering to secure the doubleheader sweep.
The Seawolves are back in action on Sunday as they remain in Beantown to take on ACC-foe Boston College. First pitch is set for noon on ACC Network Extra.
