Softball Soars Past ACC's Eagles on Successful Sunday in Beantown

BRIGHTON, Mass. — Melissa Rahrich and Nicole McCarvill carried the Stony Brook softball team to the sweep on Sunday.

In Game 2, Rahrich tossed a three-hit shutout and McCarvill delivered a one-out RBI single with the bases loaded in the fifth inning to break a scoreless tie as the Seawolves swept host Boston College, 4-1 and 3-0.

Rahrich had helped set up McCarvill's decisive hit with a single of her own that loaded the bases.

Jourdin Hering slammed a solo homer and Jordyn Nowakowski added an RBI single in the seventh inning of Game 2 for insurance runs.

Hering went 4-for-8 in the doubleheader.

"As a team we had an incredible day, and truly played together, and it was so much fun,"'Rahrich said. "For me, just locating my pitches well and getting the team to ground out worked best for me, and having the defense behind me as well."

In the opener, Dawn Bodrug and Stony Brook rebounded from Saturday's doubleheader sweep at nearby Boston University.

Bodrug limited the Eagles to one run on six hits with 12 strikeouts in a complete game.

Trailing 1-0, the Seawolves posted two runs apiece in the fourth and seventh innings. Nowakowski helped seal the victory with a two-run single in the seventh.

Stony Brook (9-5) finally stages its first home game in two seasons on Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Fairleigh Dickinson.
