STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The Stony Brook softball team produced some late magic to earn a doubleheader split with Hofstra on Tuesday.
Lindsey Osmer delivered a one-out single up the middle in the bottom of the eighth to plate
Melissa Rahrich and the Seawolves rallied for a 4-3 walk-off win in Game 2 in the Battle of Long Island.
Osmer's shot was knocked down at shortstop, but a clean single. And Rahirch raced home from second base.
"With the way it came off the bat, it came off solid," Osmer said. "I was really excited. I saw the way it had that bounce and I knew the shortstop couldn't handle it. She ended up bobbling it. And I waited for Mel to score. And it was absolute excitement."
Scoreless entering the sixth, Stony Brook produced three runs in the frame to pull even.
Osmer had delivered a two-run single in the sixth to pull the Seawolves within a run.
Julianna Sanzone followed with a game-tying two-out RBI single.
Stony Brook improved to 2-5 when trailing after five innings.
"It was just a gritty performance by the team in Game 2 to not quit and to find a way to win it," coach
Megan T. Bryant said.
The Seawolves had dropped the opener, 4-1.
In Game 1,
Nicole McCarvill's first-inning RBI double evened the score at 1. The shot plated Rahrich, who also had doubled.
However, the Pride answered with a pair of third-inning runs against
Dawn Bodrug.
Bodrug was charged with four runs (three earned) on six hits in a complete game.
Rahrich has now reached base safely in 15 straight games.
Stony Brook returns to action Thursday when it hosts Fordham.
