BALTIMORE — The Stony Brook softball team is one of the final two teams standing in the America East Tournament.
The Seawolves ousted UAlbany, 6-1, in an elimination game on Friday afternoon.
Stony Brook must beat top-seeded UMBC twice on Saturday in order to win the conference title and earn the program's first berth to the NCAA Tournament since 2013.
It marks a rematch of the 2019 final.
The Seawolves had fallen to host UMBC, 4-1, in the first game on Friday for their first defeat in the double-elimination tournament.
In the victory against second-seeded UAlbany,
Melissa Rahrich set the program record for career hits with a leadoff single in the fifth. Her 246th career hit passed Kristen Brust, who had 245 from 2002 through 2005. Rahrich recently had claimed the program's career RBI record.
By the time of Rahrich's single in Game 2 on Friday,
Julianna Sanzone already had blasted a three-run homer to open a 6-1 lead.
Dawn Bodrug contributed the complete game.
