STONY BROOK, N.Y. — The ending proved disappointing, but three Stony Brook baseball student-athletes nonetheless have been recognized for their performances during the Seawolves' opening three games of the America East Tournament.
Nick DeGennaro,
John LaRocca and
Jared Milch were named to the All-Championship team on Thursday.
Stony Brook earned the conference's regular-season title, but its pursuit of an NCAA bid ended when league officials canceled the remainder of the tournament without its completion due to inclement weather.
DeGennaro limited Maine to three runs (two earned) on seven hits while striking out a season-high-matching 11 in eight innings in the tournament's opening game.
LaRocca, in his lone season with the Seawolves after arriving from New York Tech as a graduate transfer, hit .333 (5-for-15) with a walk and four runs scored in three games.
He actually stole home for the lone run in Saturday's championship-round game against NJIT, which landed him on SportsCenter's Top 10. However, the play officially was wiped out when the game was suspended in the third inning and never resumed.
Milch's final collegiate start turned out to be a nine-inning complete-game win against UAlbany in an elimination game. He limited the Great Danes to two runs on five hits while striking out seven in a 120-pitch effort.
