BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Stony Brook University women's soccer team (0-1-1) played LIU (0-1-1) to a scoreless draw in double overtime on Thursday at the LIU Soccer Park. The Seawolves dominated the pace of play as they outshot the Sharks, 19-6, and picked up their first clean sheet of the 2021 campaign.
Stony Brook's offensive attack registered five shots on goal over the course of 110 minutes of action. The Seawolves best scoring chance came in the 53
rd minute when graduate forward
Alyssa Francese had a penalty kick turned away by LIU's senior goalkeeper Lydia Fraga Cordoba.
The Stony Brook backline stood strong as it limited LIU to just six shots, three of which were on target in the match. Junior goalkeeper
Emerson Richmond Burke picked up her first clean sheet of the season as she made three saves.
STATS AND NOTES
- Francese registered a game-high five shots, two of which were on target. Francese's five shot attempts were her most in a match since she took seven shots against Vermont on April 15, 2021.
- Richmond Burke notched her fourth career clean sheet and first since she shutout Binghamton in the America East Championship final on April 17, 2021.
- Freshman midfielder Alexa Jindal attempted four shots and one shot on goal in 45 minutes of action off the bench. Jindal's lone shot on target was saved by LIU's Fraga Cordoba in the 85th minute.
- Junior defender Catharina von Drigalski took three shots in her season debut. Her three shot attempts were her most in a contest since she took a career-high four shots against Vermont on October 20, 2019.
- Senior midfielder Ranae Ward recorded Stony Brook's first shot of the match, but was turned away by Fraga Cordoba in the ninth minute.
- Stony Brook won the battle for the corners, 5-3, and controlled the ball for 53 percent of the contest.
