BOSTON — After recording a pair of clean sheets in an undefeated week,
Emerson Richmond Burke was named America East Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career, the league announced Monday morning.
The Seattle, Wash., native is currently boasting a 200-minute scoreless streak after holding Long Island and Columbia without a goal this week as Stony Brook earned four points out of a possible six, defeating the latter opponent in 1-0 fashion at LaValle Stadium on Sunday.
She was all over the box on Sunday, recording a trio of saves and also denying numerous Columbia crosses and runs into the box to ensure the Seawolves would earn their first win of the campaign.
Burke's selection is the first Defensive Player of the Week honor since October 28, 2019 when Sofia Manner was tabbed. She earned the award four times in her career.
The Seawolves return to action with a big road weekend ahead, taking on Providence on September 2 before traveling west to Colorado on September 5.
