Women’s Basketball Hits the Road to Take on New Hampshire: 5 Things to Know

THE MATCHUP: The Stony Brook University women's basketball team (12-2, 3-1 America East) hits the road to face-off against New Hampshire (3-11, 0-3 America East) on Sunday, January 16 at 1 p.m. in Durham, N.H. The game is set to air on ESPN+ with Matt Corsetti (play-by-play) and Tim O'Sullivan (analyst) on the call.
 
SERIES HISTORY: This matchup between the Seawolves and Wildcats marks the 47th time these two teams will go head-to-head. Stony Brook currently holds a 21-26 record against New Hampshire. The first time these two teams saw each other was on February 1, 2002, where the Seawolves fell to the Wildcats, 72-39, up north in Durham, N.H.  The last time these two teams faced-off was January 16-17, 2021, where the Seawolves fell to the Wildcats, 52-49, on Jan. 16, but rallied back on Jan. 17, to win, 64-41.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Stony Brook defeated Vermont, 65-59, on Wednesday, January 12, to secure its third conference win. Anastasia Warren led the scoring for the Seawolves finishing with 16 points, followed closely by graduate forward Leighah-Amori Wool who brought in 12 points. The Seawolves dominated down low converting almost half of the team's points from within the paint (32).
 
DOING WHAT WE DO: Warren went 4-of-6 from three-point range and knocked down the 100th three-pointer of her career. Warren was one of nine Stony Brook student-athletes to convert 100 or more threes in her career and currently sits in eighth-place with 103 made triples. Wool finished the game with a near double-double as she totaled 12 points and eight rebounds. She has scored in double figures in each of the Seawolves' last four games. Pagan raked in 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, pulled down seven rebounds, and swiped a season-high three steals. Pagan has scored at least 11 points and corralled at least seven rebounds in each of the last three games. Senior forward Nairimar Vargas-Reyes went a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: The Wildcats fell to the Black Bears, 71-51, on Thursday, January 13, in Orono, Maine. With the loss, New Hampshire dropped to 3-11, 0-3 America East on the season. New Hampshire's scoring offense is led by graduate guard Amanda Torres. Torres leads the scoring for the Wildcats averaging 11.2 points over 14 starts. Senior forward Ivy Gogolin follows behind Torres averaging 7.4 points over 14 games (13 starts). Head coach Kelsey Hogan is in her second year at the helm of New Hampshire. Hogan, a former three-time captain, All-America East Team guard, and six-year assistant/associate head coach for the Wildcats, was named seventh head coach in program history on August 10, 2020. This is Hogan's third appearance against Stony Brook.
