THE MATCHUP: The Stony Brook University women's basketball team (14-2, 5-1 America East) hosts UAlbany (11-5, 4-1 America East) to round out the two-game SUNY homestand on Saturday, January 22 at 2 p.m. The game is set to air on ESPN3 with Sam Neidermann (play-by-play) and Rob Pavinelli (analyst) on the call.

SERIES HISTORY: The Empire clash is back as this matchup marks the 63rd time the Seawolves and Great Danes will go head-to-head. Stony Brook currently holds a 27-36 record against UAlbany. The first time these two teams saw each other was on Feb. 7, 1987, where the Seawolves defeated the Great Danes, 81-73, in Stony Brook, N.Y. The last time these two teams faced-off was Feb. 22-23, 2021, where Stony Brook swept the series, 58-46, and 62-42, respectively, at The Island.

BATTLE OF THE SUNY'S: Stony Brook defeated Binghamton, 69-44, on Wednesday, January 19, to secure their fifth conference win in a row. India Pagan led the scoring for the Seawolves, raking in a season-high 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field. It was the second time this season that she scored 20 or more points in a game (scored 20 points vs. Penn on Dec. 10).  Anastasia Warren finished with 12 points and scored in double figures for the ninth time this season. She has scored in double-digits in four consecutive games. The Seawolves dominated down low finishing more than half of the team's 69 points in the paint (46), against Binghamton.

STRONG ISLAND BASKETBALL: Stony Brook did not let up on defense against Binghamton, limiting the Bearcats to only 44 points. It was the sixth time this season Stony Brook held an opponent under 50 points. The 44 points allowed are tied for the second-fewest the Seawolves allowed in a game this season (held Rutgers to 44 points on Nov. 16 and Maine to 44 points on Jan. 9). The Seawolves have outrebounded their opponents in 12 games this season and have posted a 12-0 record in those contests. Stony Brook limited Binghamton to 27.7 percent shooting from the field and 18.2 percent shooting from three-point range. The 27.7 field goal percentage was the second lowest of any Stony Brook opponent this season (held Rutgers to 26.4 percent shooting on Nov. 16).

NEW YORK'S TEAM: The Seawolves are 5-1 this season against teams that hail from New York state. Stony Brook has earned wins over St. John's, Iona, Columbia, St. Francis Brooklyn, and Binghamton. The Seawolves are slated to play Binghamton again and UAlbany (twice).

SCOUTING THE GREAT DANES: The Great Danes defeated the Retrievers, 69-40, on Wednesday, January 19, at SEFCU Arena. With the win, UAlbany improved to 11-5 (4-1 America East) on the season. UAlbany's scoring offense is led by sophomore guard Kayla Cooper. Cooper leads the scoring for the Great Danes averaging 12.3 points over 16 games (five starts). Junior forward Helene Haegerstrand follows behind Cooper averaging 11.9 points over 16 starts. Head coach Colleen Mullen is in her fourth year at the helm of UAlbany. Mullen led the Great Danes to the America East semifinals where they were defeated by Maine, 67-47, during the 2020-21 campaign. Mullen joined UAlbany after spending seven seasons at Army West Point.
