STONY BROOK, N.Y. — After an even first half, the Stony Brook men's basketball team (12-7, 4-2 America East) was not able to keep up with a Vermont team that shot 63 percent from the field in the second half and the Catamounts left with an 80-67 victory in front of 2,504 fans at Island Federal Arena on Wednesday night.
The Seawolves jumped out of the gates fast, climbing to a nine-point advantage at the 10:29 mark of the first half but Vermont whittled it down and was able to take a 3-point lead into the break.
Stony Brook jumped back out in the second half, taking a pair of 3-point advantages before Vermont's 14-2 run gave them an advantage they would not relinquish. Vermont made all five of its shots during the stretch, including four from long range.
Jahlil Jenkins led the Seawolves with 17 points, hitting six of his 12 shots from the field including 3-of-5 from downtown.
Anthony Roberts added 16 for Stony Brook.
STATS AND NOTES
- Both Jenkins and Tykei Greene finished the day with three steals, the second-most by a Seawolves player in a game this season. The number also matches Greene's season high.
- The loss snapped Stony Brook's seven-game home winning streak.
- Roberts has now scored in double figures in six consecutive contests.
- Jenkins' 10-point performance streak is now at four and a season-high 16 for the campaign.
