Women's Hoops Welcomes New Hampshire For Friday Showdown: 5 Things to Know

THE MATCHUP: The Stony Brook University women's basketball team (16-2, 7-1 America East) returns to Island Federal Arena to welcome New Hampshire (4-14, 1-6 America East) on Friday, January 28 at 3 p.m. The game is set to air on ESPN3 with Sam Neidermann (play-by-play) and Rob Pavinelli (analyst) on the call.
 
SERIES HISTORY: This matchup between the Seawolves and Wildcats marks the 48th time these two teams will go head-to-head. Stony Brook currently holds a 22-26 record against New Hampshire. The first time these two teams saw each other was on Feb. 1, 2002, where the Seawolves fell to the Wildcats, 72-39, up north in Durham, N.H. The last time these two teams faced-off was January 16, where Stony Brook defeated New Hampshire, 71-53, in Durham, N.H.
 
LAST TIME OUT: Stony Brook defeated Vermont, 71-63, on Wednesday, January 26, to secure their seventh conference win in a row. Anastasia Warren led the scoring for the Seawolves, finishing with 19 points on 6-of-7 shooting from the field and 3-of-3 from behind the arc. This marked her 11th game of the season and sixth consecutive contest scoring double-figures. Gigi Gonzalez and Earlette Scott followed closely behind Warren contributing 18 points and 17 points, respectively. Gonzalez has now finished in double-digits in 12 contests. The 71 points scored by the Seawolves are the most any team has scored against the Catamounts this season.
 
SEAWOLVES SCOUTING REPORT: The seven-game winning streak is tied for Stony Brook's longest streak of the season (won-seven-straight games to start the season from Nov. 9-28). The 26 made free-throws against Vermont are a new season-high for the Seawolves. Stony Brook is now a perfect 13-0 when they lead at the half and 5-0 when four student-athletes finish in double-figures. The Seawolves are one of seven teams in the nation with 16 wins on the season.
 
NEW YORK'S TEAM: The Seawolves are 6-1 this season against teams that hail from New York state. Stony Brook has earned wins over St. John's, Iona, Columbia, St. Francis Brooklyn, Binghamton, and UAlbany. The Seawolves are slated to play Binghamton and UAlbany once more.
 
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS: The Wildcats fell to the Blackbears, 53-44, on Wednesday, January 26, at home. With the loss, New Hampshire dropped to 4-14 (1-6 America East) on the season. New Hampshire's scoring offense is led by graduate guard Amanda Torres. Torres leads the scoring for the Wildcats averaging 11.5 points over 18 starts. Senior forward Ivy Gogolin follows behind Torres averaging 7.7 points over 17 games (14 starts). Head coach Kelsey Hogan is in her second year at the helm of New Hampshire. Hogan, a former three-time captain, All-America East Team guard, and six-year assistant/associate head coach for the Wildcats, was named seventh head coach in program history on Aug. 10, 2020. This is Hogan's fourth appearance against Stony Brook.
