STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook University women's basketball team (20-3, 11-2 America East) put together a valiant come-from-behind effort, but fell to Maine (13-10, 10-3 America East), 61-55, on Saturday afternoon.
Maine came out strong from the start, scoring 24 points in the first quarter alone to Stony Brook's eight. The Black Bears held onto the lead for the remainder of the contest, growing the lead to as large as 23 with 5:23 left in the second quarter.
Stony Brook went on a 13-0 scoring run to cut the lead to as little as one on a driving layup from
Anastasia Warren with 4:32 left to go in the fourth. Maine was able to hang on to its lead and steal the win despite being outscored by Stony Brook, 15-10, in the fourth quarter.
The Seawolves had a trio of student-athletes finish in double figures with Warren leading the way with a game-high 13 points. Senior guard

Gigi Gonzalez followed closely behind with 12 points and 11 points, respectively.
STATS AND NOTES
- Warren led all scorers with a game-high 13 points. It was the 14th time this season she has finished in double figures.
- Scott finished with 12 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
- Gonzalez filled the stat sheet for the Seawolves finishing with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, pulled down three rebounds, and dished out two assists.
- After trailing by 23 points with just over five minutes remaining in the second quarter, Stony Brook went on a scoring tear, outscoring the Black Bears 41-21 to cut the deficit to one point with 3:32 left in the game.
- The team capitalized on Maine's fouling, going 13-18 (72.2%) on free-throws, with four Seawolves being perfect from the line.
