STONY BROOK, N.Y. — En route to season-bests in scoring, field goal percentage and rebounding, the Stony Brook men's basketball team celebrated its seniors with an emphatic 66-50 victory over rivals UAlbany on Saturday night in front of 3,048 fans at Island Federal Arena.
After dropping down by seven early, the Seawolves ripped off a 16-2 run to take the lead for good. The Stony Brook defense held the Great Danes to 1-for-12 shooting during that stretch, while Stony Brook went 7-for-12.
Stony Brook took a 31-24 advantage into the break and kept expanding on it, eventually pulling up by 19 at 50-31 with just under 10 minutes to play in the half. The Seawolves kept their distance, as three scorers cracked double figures in the win.
With the win, the Seawolves earned their eighth win over the last 10 games with their rivals.
STATS AND NOTES
- Stony Brook's defense posted season-bests in scoring (50 points), field-goal percentage (29.7) and rebounds (26).
- Tykei Greene posted his seventh double-double of the year and No. 13 in his Seawolves career. The latter tied him for fourth in program history with Leon Brisport.
- The Seawolves' five blocked shots are one-off a season best.
- Omar Habwe finished the night with 11 rebounds, tied for his most against America East opposition in his two-year Stony Brook career.
- Roberts' eight assists are a new career best, topping his six at UMBC on Feb. 16, 2022.
- Jaden Sayles' two blocks matched a season best.
