STONY BROOK, N.Y. — With 7.1 seconds left, it looked as if the Stony Brook men's basketball team was headed for its third straight late-game loss after a UMass Lowell and-1 made it 85-84 to the visitors.

Anthony Roberts.
His 27th point of the night gave Stony Brook the lead for good en route to a thrilling 87-85 victory over the River Hawks, snapping its three-game winning streak and giving the Seawolves a much-needed victory to jump back above .500 in league play at 6-5 and 14-10 overall. Adding the free throw, the St. Bonaventure transfer finished with a game-high 28 and six rebounds to aid the trek to victory.
Tykei Greene added 22, hitting 8-of-13 from the field and 4-for-6 from deep, and
Frankie Policelli joined in with 15, including a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line.
The game was a roller coaster in the second half, with Stony Brook jumping out to a 7-point lead at 59-52 with 12:59 to go in the half. The River Hawks would respond, flipping the seven-point deficit into a six-point lead in a matter of four minutes. After the Seawolves scored five in a row to cut it to one, the game would stay within one possession for the final 7:48.
STATS AND NOTES
- His second-highest point total of the season, Roberts' 28 marked his fourth game of the season with 20-plus in the scoring department.
- Greene added his second consecutive game of 20 or more, totaling 22 on the game.
- The four triples are a new season-high, one off his career best of five at Hofstra (12/22/19).
- The 20 each from both of them was the first time this has happened for the Seawolves since Elijah Olaniyi and Andrew Garcia each dropped 20 against UAlbany on January 18, 2020.
- Stony Brook's 87 points tied for the most this season and the most since Dec. 29 against Farmingdale State. They also hit that mark on Dec. 14 against Central Connecticut.
- Hitting the mark for the eighth time this season, Geno Ford's club is 8-0 when scoring 80 or more points.
- The 49 in the second half was the most in the second 20 minutes all season.
- Policelli's 7-for-7 from the charity stripe is a season-best for makes.
