FAIRFIELD, CONN. – Stony Brook's hot hitting continued as the Seawolves knocked off Fairfield 13-5 on Saturday afternoon in Fairfield, Conn. Stony Brook's hot hitting was led by none other than reigning conference Player and Co-Rookie of the Week, freshman outfielder
Alyssa Costello.
Costello went a perfect 5-5 at the plate with three RBI as she helped lead a Seawolves' offense that tallied a season-high 13 runs on a season-high 18 hits. Senior infielder
Lindsey Osmer and sophomore infielder
Sofia Chambers also totaled three RBI as they aided in the dominate victory.
Graduate pitcher
Dawn Bodrug entered the contest in the third inning as she relieved starting pitcher
Ashton Melaas. Bodrug was locked in as she struck out 13 batters and held Fairfield to only two hits.
Sophomore utility
Catherine Anne Kupinski got the scoring going for the Seawolves early as she reached on an error by the second baseman which allowed sophomore
Kyra McFarland to score. Osmer, Chambers, and McFarland kept the momentum rolling as they each plated runs off singles to extend the lead to 6-5 by the end of the third inning.
Junior catcher
Corinne Badger added a solo home run in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth to increase the lead. Osmer, Costello, and Chambers capped things off for Stony Brook as they brought in a total of four runs in the fifth.
STATS AND NOTES
- Costello went 5-5 at the plate with three RBI and two runs scored. She recorded three singles, two doubles, and added a career-high two stolen bases. It was her sixth multi-hit game. Costello's five hits are the most hits in a single-game by a player this season; she is on a nine-game hitting streak. She became one of just five student-athletes in the nation to register a five-hit game this season.
- Badger went 4-5 in the game with a home run, two doubles, and a single. She added a career-high four runs scored which are the most runs scored in a single game by a player this season. Badger's home run was her 10th of the season.
- Osmer recorded a season-high tying three hits, three RBI, and two runs scored. It was her third multi-hit game.
- Chambers and McFarland recorded two hits apiece.
- Bodrug secured her eighth win as she tossed 5.0 scoreless innings and allowed just two hits in relief. She struck out 13 batters and now has registered double-digit strikeout performances in six-straight games.
