ORONO, Maine – The Seawolves put together a complete effort as they thrived in all aspects of the game en route to a 6-2 win over Maine to even the series up at 1-1. Stony Brook received three-hit games from sophomores
Evan Fox and
Matt Brown-Eiring and strong pitching performances from junior
Brandon Lashley and freshman
Colton Book.
Lashley got the start for the Seawolves and went 5.1 innings as he earned his first win of the season and the second of his career. The junior gave up one run (earned) on five hits and struck out three in his third start of the season.
Book came on in relief of Lashley in the bottom of the sixth inning and pitched the Seawolves out of a bases loaded jam. The freshman went on to throw 3.2 innings out of the bullpen and earned the first save of his career. Book allowed one run (earned) on four hits and struck out one.
Stony Brook's offense delivered in the win and it was led by Fox and Brown Eiring. The duo went a combined 6-10 with a home run, two doubles, three RBI, three runs scored, and two stolen bases.
Junior
Shane Paradine opened up the scoring for the Seawolves with an RBI double to left center field to chase in Fox to make it 1-0 in the top of the first inning. Stony Brook did not plate a run again until the top of the sixth when senior
Evan Giordano drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 2-0.
Stony Brook tacked on four runs in the top of the eighth inning and went ahead, 6-1. Fox ripped a double down the left field line to score junior
Stanton Leuthner. Giordano followed with an RBI single to left to bring in Fox. Brown-Eiring capped off the inning with a two-run homer to right field to give the Seawolves the insurance runs that they needed.
Maine added a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Book was able to close the door and clinch the victory for the Seawolves.
STATS AND NOTES
- Lashley picked up his second career win and first since he earned the win against at Southeastern on February 29, 2020.
- Book notched his first career save in his fourth appearance of the season and first since March 5.
- Fox set the table at the top of the order as he went 3-5 at the dish with a double, an RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. It was his first three-hit game of the season and the third of his career. It marked the third time this season that he swiped multiple bases in a game. He extended his hitting streak to 10 games in a row.
- Brown-Eiring also went 3-5 at the plate as he slugged his second home run of the season. It was his fourth three-hit game and his fifth multi-hit game of the year overall.
- Giordano collected two hits on the day and a pair of RBI. It was his seventh multi-hit game of the season and sixth multi-RBI game. The seven multi-hit games are tied for the team lead and the six multi-RBI games are the most on the team. He is currently on a seven-game hitting streak.
- Paradine extended his reached base streak to 15 games in a row, while junior Brett Paulsen extended his to 14 consecutive games.
