BOSTON – Junior defenseman
Michael Sabella and freshman goalie
Jamison MacLachlan took home America East weekly honors as announced by the league office on Monday morning. Sabella was named the conference Defensive Player of the Week, while MacLachlan claimed the Rookie of the Week award.
Sabella anchored the Seawolves' defense that held Binghamton to just three goals. Sabella and the Stony Brook defense forced a season-high 25 turnovers and held its opponent to a season-low 29 shots. The junior held Binghamton's top scorer Kevin Winkoff in check. Winkoff did not record and point and turned the ball over three times as he was smothered by Sabella over the duration of the contest.
MacLachlan made his first career start and picked up his first career win in the cage. The freshman made a career-high 10 saves and picked up two ground balls. He recorded a 76.9 save percentage and only surrendered three goals.
Stony Brook continues its two-game road swing when it heads to UMBC to take on the Golden Retrievers in Baltimore, Md. on Saturday, April 23, at noon. The Seawolves are 2-3 in their last five games against UMBC and picked up their last win against them on March 23, 2019, at LaValle Stadium.
