Bodrug Tosses Fourth No-Hitter This Month in Victory Over UMBC

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Graduate pitcher Dawn Bodrug kept her hot streak rolling in the circle as she tossed her sixth career no-hitter en route to Stony Brook's 2-0 win over UMBC on Wednesday. The graduate went 7.0 innings and struck out 12 batters in her fourth no-hitter this month.

The Seawolves came away victorious in game three of the season series against the Retrievers and pulled into first-place in the America East standings. Stony Brook previously fell to UMBC, 5-1 and 3-0, earlier this month in a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday, April 13, in Baltimore, Md.

UMBC senior pitcher Courtney Coppersmith went 6.0 innings and allowed two unearned runs to also register a no-hitter.

STATS AND NOTES
  • Junior infielder Brooke Dye recorded the Seawolves' first run, scoring on a throwing error by the right fielder that stemmed from a bunt from junior outfielder Shauna Nuss.
  • Nuss scored behind Dye, reaching home on an error by the second baseman off a bunt from sophomore outfielder Alicia Orosco to give Stony Brook a 2-0 lead.
  • Bodrug earned her 17th win of the season as she tossed her 46th career complete game. The graduate struck out 12 and recorded her sixth career no-hitter and fourth this season.
 QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"This was a great effort by our team and a key win for us. We knew it was going to be a pitcher's battle, but it was crazy to have two no-hitters. Our small ball game was the difference maker and our defense was better. Dawn threw a terrific game and was in control," said head coach Megan T. Bryant.

NEXT UP
Stony Brook continues its homestand tomorrow, April 28, when it welcomes Long Island foe Hofstra to University Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. on AmericaEast.TV.
