STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Senior pitcher
Shelbi Denman dominated the circle on Thursday afternoon as she tossed a complete game and struck out a career-high 13 batters in Stony Brook's 4-2 win over Long Island rival Hofstra. With the win, the Seawolves swept the season series from the Pride and have won three-straight games against them dating back to last season. The Seawolves have extended their winning streak to six games in a row.
Stony Brook used a three-run bottom of the first inning to set the tone. Freshman outfielder
Alyssa Costello opened up the scoring with a two-run double to right field that brought home sophomore outfielder
Alicia Orosco and sophomore infielder
Kyra McFarland. Senior infielder
Lindsey Osmer extended the early lead to 3-0 on an RBI ground out to chase home Costello.
Denman fired three no-hit innings before Hofstra was able to tack on its first hit of the game in the top of the fourth. The Pride pushed home a run in the top of the fourth inning to make it 3-1 and then added another in the top of the fifth, but Denman closed the door from thereon.
The Seawolves rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning to tack on an insurance run. Sophomore infielder
Sofia Chambers chopped a single through the left side that brought home junior outfielder
Shauna Nuss.
That was all Denman needed as she struck out three of the four batters that she faced in the top of the seventh inning to seal the Seawolves' 28
th win of the season. The senior pitched her ninth complete game and earned her ninth win of the season.

QUOTES FROM THE SEAWOLVES
"We were coming off a hard-fought and emotional win yesterday and I thought we played okay today. But the difference maker for us was how tough Shelbi pitched. This was one of her best games as she went right after Hofstra from the start," said head coach
Megan T. Bryant.
