STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook University softball team shut out UAlbany in game one, 4-0, but could not rally back in game two as they were topped by the Great Danes, 10-6, on Saturday afternoon.
Stony Brook celebrated its senior class prior to the games with its annual senior day ceremony. The Seawolves recognized,
Nicole McCarvill,
Lindsey Osmer,
Shelbi Denman, and
Dawn Bodrug for all their hard work, dedication, and contributions to the softball program.
GAME 1: STONY BROOK – 4, UALBANY – 0
- Shauna Nuss and Kyra McFarland started the scoring in the third, with Nuss reaching third on an error by the third baseman which allowed Brooke Dye to score, and McFarland reached on a fielder's choice which brought home Nuss.
- Sofia Chambers and Osmer added two RBI each in the sixth inning. Osmer doubled to left center to bring home Alyssa Costello and Chambers singled to center to plate Osmer, giving the Seawovles a 4-0 lead.
- McFarland, Chambers, and Osmer all went 1-3 at the plate with one RBI.
- Costello and Dye went 1-3 at the dish and both recorded a run.
- Bodrug earned her 18th win of the season as she tossed her 47th career complete game. The graduate struck out 15 batters and gave up six hits earning her ninth shut out of the season.
GAME 2: STONY BROOK 6, UALBANY – 10
- Denman earned the start in game two, throwing four innings and striking out four batters on her 15th start this season.
- Ashton Melaas took over for Denman in the circle in the fifth inning. Melaas struck out three batters, and only gave up three hits and one earned run in her ninth career appearance.
- Costello and Osmer gave the Seawolves an early 2-0 lead with a pair of RBI. Costello doubled to center to bring home Orosco and Osmer reached on a fielder's choice which brought home Costello.
- Ashley Jacobson kept the momentum going in the first with a two-run home run to center. Jacobson went 2-2 at the plate with two RBI and two runs. The two-run home run was the second of her career (home run vs. Maine on April 2).
- After UAlbany answered in the second and fifth innings, Dye slammed a two-run home run to left center to bring the game within three. Dye went 1-3 at the dish with two RBI and one run. The two-run home run was the second of her career (home run vs. Holy Cross on March 30).
- Costello, Orosco, and McFarland all recorded a hit in the contest.
