STONY BROOK, N.Y. – The Seawolves took a thriller from the Great Danes on Sunday as they rallied to pick up an 8-7 win over their in-state rival. With the win, Stony Brook claimed the series from Albany and head coach
Megan T. Bryant earned her 600
th career victory at the University.
The Seawolves used a two-out rally in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the 8-7 lead that they would go on to win by. Junior pitcher
Ashton Melaas closed the door as she tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief, which included a 1-2-3 top of the seventh inning to secure the victory.
Stony Brook received a pair of clutch two-out hits in the bottom of the sixth to go out in front in the game. Sophomore outfielder
Alicia Orosco cut the Great Danes' lead to 7-6 with an RBI single to right field that brought home junior outfielder
Shauna Nuss.

Kyra McFarland followed with what proved to be the game-winning hit for the Seawolves. The sophomore clubbed a two-run double, that one-hopped the left center field fence to chase in sophomore utility
Catherine Anne Kupinski and Orosco to give Stony Brook the 8-7 advantage.
Melaas had the hot hand in the circle as she came on in relief of graduate pitcher
Dawn Bodrug. Melaas retired the side in order in the top of the seventh inning to seal the Seawolves' 30
th win of the season and coach Bryant's 600
th on Long Island. Stony Brook recorded its first 30-win season since 2019 and 10
th under coach Bryant.
STATS AND NOTES
- After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, the Seawolves responded with a four-run bottom of the first. Senior infielder Lindsey Osmer and sophomore infielder Ashley Jacobson did the damage. Osmer brought in a run with an RBI single, while Jacobson launched a three-run home run.
- Jacobson went 2-3 at the dish with the three-run home run. It was her third home run of the season and second in as many games.
- McFarland finished the game going 3-4 with the game-winning two-run double and two stolen bases. It was her 12th multi-hit game and third three hit game of the season, which ties her for the team lead.
- Melaas earned her third win of the season as she tossed 2.2 innings of scoreless relief. The junior struck out two and surrendered just one hit in her relief outing.
- Osmer and junior catcher Corinne Badger both went 1-2 with an RBI in the game. Badger ripped an RBI single to center field in the bottom of the third inning that gave the Seawolves a 5-4 lead.
- Kupinski recorded a two-hit day as she went 2-3 with a run scored. It was her fifth multi-hit game of the season.

Stony Brook is back on the field for its final home doubleheader of the season on Wednesday, May 4, when it hosts UMass. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m. from University Field.
