2022 Stony Brook SB - Dawn Bodrug

Game Recap: Softball |

Bodrug Ties Single-Season Strikeout Record as Softball Splits Doubleheader with UMass Lowell

LOWELL, Mass. – Graduate pitcher Dawn Bodrug added another milestone to her mantle as she tied Stephanie Poetzsch's Stony Brook single-season strikeout record with 282, in the game one win over UMass Lowell on Friday. Bodrug picked up her 19th victory of the season as the Seawolves knocked off the River Hawks, 2-0, in the first game of the twin bill.

After a shutout victory in game one, Stony Brook was topped by UMass Lowell, 11-3, in six innings in the second game on Friday afternoon. The Seawolves could not prevail despite junior catcher Corinne Badger launching her league-leading 15th home run of the season.

In game one, Bodrug went the distance for the 22nd time this season and tallied her 10th shutout as she tossed a one-hitter. The graduate registered three strikeouts and tied Poetzsch's aforementioned single-season strikeout record. With one game to go in the regular season, Bodrug has a chance to set the Stony Brook single-season strikeout record on Saturday afternoon.

The Seawolves recorded four hits in game one, one of which was sophomore infielder Sofia Chamber's first-career home run. The sophomore sent a solo homer over the left field fence to extend Stony Brook's lead to 2-0 – a score it would hold on to win by.
