PONOMA, N.Y. — A five-run fourth inning allowed the hosts Manhattan to pull away on Tuesday afternoon to a 9-2 victory over the Stony Brook baseball program.
After the Seawolves had tied the game at one in the top of the third, the big frame was five of the eight unanswered the Jaspers rattled off en route to the victory.
Evan Fox was involved in both runs. He singled home
Idris Carter with a single in the third and would later score on
Brett Paulsen's RBI groundout in the eighth.
That was part of a two-hit day for Fox, as he also added a stolen base from the top of the Stony Brook batting order.
Stanton Leuthner recorded a hit in both of his plate appearances to round out the Seawolves' multi-hit performances on the day.
STATS AND NOTES
- Matt Brown-Eiring reached on a single up the middle in the fourth, extending his streak of reaching base to 15 games.
- Leuthner recorded his ninth game of two or more hits on the season, while Fox has six such performances.
- John Kiss made his first collegiate start in his fourth appearance, going 1.2 innings with one earned and a pair of strikeouts.
- Brian Hart made his collegiate debut in the eighth, throwing a scoreless frame.
UP NEXT
The Seawolves open up a homestand this weekend, welcoming rivals UAlbany for a three-game set starting Friday at 3 p.m., at Joe Nathan Field. Saturday's first pitch is slated for 1 p.m., while Sunday's start is scheduled for Noon.
