Grace Weigele Secures First-Place Finish in 3000 Meter at ECAC Championships

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Freshman Grace Weigele highlighted the day for the Seawolves as she earned a first-place finish and a new personal best in the 3000 meter at the ECAC Championships on Saturday.
 
Stony Brook left their mark on the 3000 meter earning third and fourth-place finishes in addition to taking home the gold. Sophomore Fiona McLoughlin secured a third-place finish with a final time of 9:45.95. Sophomore Nicole Garcia finished directly behind in fourth with a final time of 9:50.94.
 
Junior Ally Turbush kept the momentum rolling as she secured a third-place finish in her heat (sixth overall) and a new personal best in the 100 meter hurdles with her final time of 14.58 in the preliminaries. Turbush punched her ticket to the finals tomorrow with her final time.
 
The Seawolves currently sit in fifth-place overall with 26 points.
 
HIGHLIGHTS
  • Weigele secured a first-place finish and a new personal best in the 3000 meter with a final time of 9:33.72. McLoughlin and Garcia earned third and fourth-place finishes with final times of 9:45.95 and 9:50.94, respectively. Garcia also secured a new personal best.
  • Turbush secured a third-place finish in her heat (sixth overall) and a new personal best in the 100 meter hurdles with her final time of 14.58 in the preliminaries, qualifying for finals tomorrow.
  • Dana Cerbone crossed the line in 11.99 in the 100 meter dash which was good for a ninth place finish.
  • Kyria Moore earned an eighth-place finish in the hammer throw with a final mark of 50.52m.
  • The 4x100 meter relay squad comprised of Jaelyn Davis, Nadja Ashley, Jada Hodge, and Cerbone earned a fifth-place finish with a final time of 47.10.

"We had a good competitive day overall, the performances of Grace and Carlos were the highlights, but I feel everyone here is doing their best to finish the season off with good competitive performances," said head coach Andrew Ronan.

The Stony Brook track and field team continues championship weekend tomorrow, May 15, when they return to the track in Williamsburg, Va. for the final day of the ECAC/IC4A Championships.
