Football Alumnus Tyrone Wheatley Jr. Signs with Las Vegas Raiders

HENDERSON, Nev. – Stony Brook University football alumnus Tyrone Wheatley Jr. has signed with the Las Vegas Raiders as announced by the organization on Monday. Wheatley Jr. joins the Raiders after spending the 2021 season on the Chicago Bears' practice squad.
 
Wheatley Jr. was a member of the Seawolves for one season as he transferred to Stony Brook from Michigan. During his collegiate career, he played tight end and helped the Seawolves earn an FCS Playoff berth. Stony Brook went head-to-head with Southeast Missouri in the 2018 NCAA Division I Football Championship.
 
In 2018, he played in 11 games and made eight starts at tight end for the Seawolves. Wheatley Jr. pulled down six receptions for 36 yards and made his first catch at Stony Brook in a win over Villanova on September 29, 2018. He caught a season-best three passes for 14 yards in the win over Delaware on November 10, 2018.
 
Wheatley Jr. is the son of Tyrone Wheatley, who played 10 years in the NFL, including six seasons with the Raiders (1999-2004).
