SMITHFIELD, R.I. — Three goals in 21 minutes from
Gabby Daniels,
Reilly Rich and
Sammy Hannwacker put the Stony Brook women's soccer team on the front foot in the first half and they would control the rest of the way en route to a 3-1 victory over Bryant on Sunday afternoon at Beirne Stadium in Smithfield, R.I.
Daniels started the scoring off a corner kick, volleying home a goal that made it 1-0 for her first of the season.
Rich and Hannwacker both opened their Seawolves scoring accounts, as each converted on one-on-one situations with the keeper to give Stony Brook a cushion. Rich's tally came in the 29th minute off a great feed from
Kerry Pearson, while
Kaylee Armenia found
Sammy Hannwacker to play her in 12 minutes later.
The Seawolves controlled the opening frame, outshooting the Bulldogs 8-4 with five of the shots on frame. They finished with a 16-12 advantage overall.
Bischof's club also had 75 percent of its possession in the Bulldogs' side during the first 45 minutes of action. 65 percent of their possession over the 90 minutes was in the visitor's half.
STATS AND NOTES
- Daniels' goal is the second of her career and first of the 2022 campaign. She also scored in her collegiate debut at Hofstra last August.
- Rich and Hannwacker both scored their first goals as a Seawolves player, becoming the fourth and fifth different players to tally one this season.
- Going back to Thursday night, the Seawolves offense totaled five goals in a 44-minute stretch.
- Hannwacker and Jordan Wolf made their collegiate debuts in the contest, while Graceann Murphy made her first appearace as a Seawolves player
- Wolf earned her first collegiate win, providing a clean-sheet 45 minutes.
