CHARLESTON, S.C. – Stony Brook redshirt senior running back Ty Son Lawton has been named to the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy Watch List as announced by the organization on Thursday.

Lawton was one of 38 student-athletes from around the nation to be named to the watch list and was just one of nine CAA Football student-athletes to receive the prestigious recognition.

The Staten Island, N.Y. native adds this honor to his list of accolades that he has received thus far in 2022. Lawton has also received the following honors this season: CAA Football Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, CAA Football Preseason All-Conference, Stats Perform Preseason All-America Third Team, Phil Steele Preseason All-America Fourth Team, and Phil Steele CAA Preseason All-Conference First Team.

In Stony Brook's season opener against Rhode Island, he ran for 46 yards and caught one pass for 15 yards. Lawton scored the 21st rushing touchdown of his career with a two-yard plunge at the end of the second quarter. The touchdown moved him into sole possession of eighth-place in rushing touchdowns in program history.

Lawton finished the 2021 season as the CAA's leading rusher with 1,088 yards on 216 carries and was tabbed to the All-CAA First Team. His 1,088 rushing yards were the 10th-most in a single-season in program history.

Stony Brook is back on the field on Saturday, September 17, when it travels to FBS foe UMass for a 3:30 p.m. kick-off.
