NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Stony Brook men's track and field team competed in the first day of the two-day Dr. Sander Columbia Challenge at The Armory on Friday.
Senior distance runner
Shane Henderson finished in second place in the 5000 meter race with a final time of 14:05.03. He set a new personal best in the event.
Graduate
Carlos Santos Jr. followed Henderson, finishing in fourth place in the event. Santos set a new personal-best with a final time of 14:05.86. Senior
Evan Brennan also finished inside the top 10 in the 5000 meter dash. Brennen crossed the finish line in 14:14.34.
The trio led Stony Brook in the first day of the meet and the squad currently sits tied for seventh with the Brown Bears with 15 points.
DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Alex Kanes set a new personal best in the long jump event. He finished in 12th place with a 6.84 meter leap.
- Freshman Aleksander Micich also competed in the long jump and leaped to a final mark of 6.47 meters.
- Two Seawolves set personal records in the 60 meter preliminary race. Sophomore Seth Hilario crossed the finish line in 8.46 seconds and sophomore Dolapo Babalola followed with a final time of 8.50.
- Henderson finished in second place in the 5000 meter race with a final time of 14:05.03. He set a new personal best in the event
- Santos Jr. followed Henderson, finishing in fourth place in the event. Santos set a new personal-best with a final time of 14:05.86. Brennan also finished inside the top 10, crossing the line in 14:14.34.

Stony Brook will participate in the second day of the Dr. Sander Invite – Columbia Challenge at The Armory in New York City on Saturday, Jan. 28. The meet will continue at 9:30 a.m.
